Overview of the Company
The Virginia Ship Repair Association (VSRA) is a regional trade association representing companies engaged in, or supporting, the ship repair industry in Virginia and the Mid-Atlantic region. Its mission is to focus and coordinate member resources on issues, challenges, and opportunities facing the ship repair industry in Virginia and across the nation.
The Virginia Ship Repair Association was founded in 1979 when corporate officers of individual private sector shipyards in south Hampton Roads jointly established the Tidewater Maritime Training Institute (TMTI) to provided training for the ship repair industry in Hampton Roads, Virginia. The Institute was incorporated in 1981 as a non-profit, tax exempt educational institution (IRS 501(c)(3)), it later developed a separate industry association (STASR) as a 501(c)(6). Today the industry association is called the Virginia Ship Repair Associatio, and the 501(c)(3) non-profit is the Virginia Ship Repair Foundation.

The 175 member companies of the Virginia Ship Repair Association support the maintenance and improvement of Naval and Commercial vessels in Hampton Roads. With more than 30,000 employees and $9.1 Billion dollars generated for the regional economy, this industry is one of the largest contributors to the community. There are more than 100 job categories in ship repair. They range from highly skilled trades like welding, electrical work and ship fitting; to engineering, design and professional services.

The companies involved in ship repair support the Virginia Ship Repair Foundation (VSRF).
